Car parked overnight, still battery down, this is why electric vehicle faces problems
EV Maintenance: In today’s time, the trend of electric vehicles is increasing rapidly, but some new problems are also emerging with it. The most common problem among these is the gradual depletion of the battery even after keeping the vehicle parked overnight. Generally people think that if the car is switched off then the battery will not be consumed at all, but the reality is different.
The real truth about lithium-ion batteries
Slight discharge is a normal phenomenon in lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles. That is, if the vehicle remains parked for some time, it is natural for the battery percentage to reduce slightly. Additionally, many of the vehicle’s systems continue to run in the background even after it is turned off. Like battery management system, security features, remote connectivity and software updates, all these together keep using the battery slowly.
Weather also becomes a big reason
Weather has a direct impact on the battery. In extreme cold, the chemical processes of the battery slow down, due to which its capacity is felt less. At the same time, excessive heat can damage the internal parts of the battery and reduce its performance. Many times, the car’s system itself does heating or cooling to keep the battery at a safe temperature, which also drains the electric vehicle’s battery.
Ignoring dashboard alerts can prove costly
If your car’s battery gets depleted overnight, it is not normal. The reason behind this could be poor condition of the battery, malfunction in the charging system or some feature being continuously on. Also, if the range of the vehicle starts decreasing, has to be charged frequently or charging takes more time, then these are signs of weakening of the battery. In such a situation, ignoring the alerts coming on the dashboard can prove costly.

Easy ways to increase battery life
To keep the electric vehicle battery better for a long time, it is important to adopt some easy habits. If the vehicle has to be parked for a long time, do not leave the battery at a very low level, but keep it at a medium level. Avoid frequent full charge or complete discharge. Use fast charging only when necessary. Also, try not to park the car in too hot or cold environments. A place with shade or cover is safer for the battery.
