New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing debate over Constitution and social justice in Indian politics, Rahul Gandhi gave a big message by flagging off the marathon named “Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution”. The objective of this program was said to be to protect the values of the Indian Constitution and promote the principles of equality.
The event was organized by the Scheduled Castes Department of the Indian National Congress, in collaboration with the OBC Department, and was attended by a large number of party workers and supporters.
India’s identity told to the Constitution
Addressing the program, Rahul Gandhi remembered the contribution of BR Ambedkar and said that the Indian Constitution is the soul of the country. He said that if there was no Constitution, the democratic form India is in today would not have been possible. Rahul Gandhi appealed to the people to remain united to protect the Constitution and play their role in strengthening its values—equality, justice and liberty.
In his address, Rahul Gandhi targeted Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and alleged that their ideology is against the basic principles of the Constitution. He said, “There are some forces who want to weaken the Constitution because they do not accept the idea of equality in the society.” He also said that even though some leaders are seen publicly respecting Dr. Ambedkar, their policies and thinking are contrary to the values of the Constitution.
Emphasis on unity and social justice
The main objective of this marathon was to give the message of unity by bringing different sections of the society on one platform. The leaders and activists participating in the program took oath to protect the Constitution and maintain the principles of social justice. Thanking all the participants, Rahul Gandhi said that such events increase awareness of the Constitution and make people realize their rights and duties.
Former Indian cricket captain and Congress leader Mohammad Azharuddin also participated in the program and highlighted the importance of the Constitution. He said that this initiative is not only in honor of Dr. Ambedkar, but is also necessary to strengthen the unity of the country. He also said that today some people are misinterpreting the Constitution, due to which confusion is spreading in the society. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of all citizens to protect the Constitution and understand its true meaning.
The event was attended by several senior Congress leaders, including Charanjit Singh Channi, Rajendra Pal Gautam and other prominent personalities. All the leaders in one voice stressed the need to protect the values of the Constitution and promote social equality.
