New Delhi. A Delhi court has sentenced a man convicted of hitting and seriously injuring an on-duty traffic policeman to two years in prison.
Deepak was convicted on charges of violating traffic signals, hitting an on-duty traffic policeman with his bike, causing serious injuries to him, and obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties.

The incident took place on March 17, 2019, when traffic policeman Narayan Singh was on duty and issuing challans. The prosecution said that Deepak, who was riding a bike at that time, violated the traffic signal and despite being stopped, hit Narayan Singh, due to which he fell on the road and the challan machine in his hand was broken.
The court sentenced Deepak to two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 8,000 under section 333 of the IPC. The court sentenced Deepak to six months’ rigorous imprisonment under section 353 and one month’s rigorous imprisonment under section 186 of the Indian Penal Code and also imposed additional fine.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on Deepak under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and ordered that all the sentences will run concurrently. Giving Deepak the benefit of Section 428 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the court said that the period spent in custody by the convict will be adjusted in the sentence period.
