Just 5 minutes, and hours pass by Gujarati
How digital media silently affects our emotions and daily life
This usually starts in just a few minutes. Do some scrolling after a long day, take a break between work or just pick up your phone when you are bored. The screen turns on and with it we are presented with endless content like posts, videos, messages, updates. But before you know it, these few minutes turn into hours.
Nowadays digital media has become an integral part of our daily life. Staying connected with people, getting entertainment or getting information – all this has now become dependent on digital platforms. But its effect is not limited to time only. It also affects our emotions.
According to a recent study, many users spend several hours every day on digital media. This study found that about 40% people felt mental fatigue after digital media consumption, while 30% people felt anxiety or restlessness. Apart from this, about 30% people admitted that they compare themselves with other people, due to which they sometimes feel inferior.
Many people also say that they feel overwhelmed by the constant flow of content. All this shows that digital media is not just a tool for consumption, it has also become a part of our emotions.
But its effect is not completely negative. For many people, digital media is also a source of entertainment and leisure. It also provides connection and inspiration.
One respondent says: “I enjoy it, but sometimes I compare myself to other people and I feel bad.”
Another says: “Sometimes I get overwhelmed or tired of the content I post.”
Along with this, many people also said that they are now becoming more aware about this effect. According to studies, more than 60% of people know that digital media affects their emotions, and many people even try to control it. Take small steps, like taking breaks, reducing screen time, or using it more mindfully. Can help bring balance to our digital lives.
After all, digital media is a part of our lives, it is not possible to completely get away from it. But it is important to understand it and use it consciously.
Perhaps it is necessary to pause and think – are we using digital media, and is it affecting us?
Because sometimes…the best thing is to just stop for a bit.
