Now there will be no tension on the road, the car will drive itself safely with ADAS technology
Smart Cars India: In the last 10-20 years, the auto industry has seen tremendous changes driven by technology. Today the car is no longer just an ordinary vehicle, but has become a smart and safe machine. Where earlier safety was limited to strong body and airbags, now advanced technology is handling this responsibility. in this series Advanced Driver Assistance Systems i.e. ADAS Technology is becoming increasingly popular, making driving easier and safer.
What is ADAS and why is it so important?
ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) is a technology that helps the driver in reducing the chances of road accidents. Level-2 ADAS is now available in many cars in India, which has made driving safer especially on highways and in heavy traffic.
How does ADAS work?
ADAS works through three main technologies: sensor and camera inputs, data processing and AI, and automatic action.
1. Sensor and Camera Input
The cameras and sensors installed in the car keep an eye on every activity. The camera recognizes lanes, traffic signs, pedestrians and other vehicles. Radar measures the distance and speed of vehicles moving in front and behind. LiDAR creates a 3D map of the road, while ultrasonic sensors detect parking and nearby objects.
2. Data Processing and AI
All this data is processed through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The system understands what is happening on the road and the driver’s behavior. As soon as danger is felt, a decision is taken immediately.
3. Alerts and automatic actions
The ADAS system responds in three ways: beep sound, vibration or screen alert. This also includes applying light braking when needed or adjusting the steering and in critical situations controlling the car by applying brakes yourself.

Level-1 ADAS: Starting with basic safety
Level-1 ADAS is considered early technology. It has features like adaptive cruise control, which adjusts the speed according to the vehicle moving ahead. However, in this the driver is always required to keep his hands on the steering. This is called “Hands-on Assist” Is also called.
Level-2 ADAS: The car will do half the driving itself
Level-2 ADAS is called partial automation. In this, the car itself can control steering, brakes and acceleration. Features like lane keep assist, auto parking and auto brake make it smarter. However, it is very important for the driver to remain alert even in this level. If necessary, control may have to be taken immediately. It is called “Hands-Off but Attention Required” Is called technology.
