Why changed the name of the temple?
There is a very interesting story behind the name of Maa Daat Kali Temple. This temple was established in 1804, when the entire country was under British rule. At the time of establishment, the temple was named Dantkali because the fierce form of Mother Kali is worshiped here. In this form, the teeth of Maa Kali are visible, that is why it was named Dantkali.
The British officers were not able to pronounce this name correctly and used to say ‘Datakali’ instead of ‘Dantakali’. Gradually the name Daatkali became so popular that later the name of the temple itself became Daatkali. For this reason, even today this temple is known as Daat Kali Temple.
