Bihar’s first BJP CM: Got the chair, now the test remains: 7 big challenges in front of Samrat Choudhary
The power of Bihar is now in the hands of Samrat Choudhary, but this is not just the moment of assuming office, but also the beginning of political and administrative test. As the first Chief Minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the expectations from him are much higher and the challenges are equally big. On one hand, they have to maintain the momentum of the governance model created during the Nitish Kumar era, and on the other hand, they have to establish their own distinct identity and new leadership. Old issues like law and order, prohibition, unemployment, migration, and caste balance are already standing in front. At the same time, it will also be important to show the benefits of better coordination between the Center and the state on the ground.
In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether Samrat Chaudhary is able to overcome seven major challenges and establish himself as a strong and effective Chief Minister or not. Know what their choices are?
1. Strengthening grip on Nitish model and bureaucracy
The first challenge will be to establish strong control over the administration. The bureaucracy of Bihar has been working in a fixed structure for a long time. In such a situation, it will not be easy to implement decisions quickly and adapt the system under the new leadership. It will be a big responsibility to take forward the “Development + Balance” model created under Nitish Kumar’s rule. If it declines, the political damage could be immediately visible.
2. What stand will you take on prohibition?
Samrat Chaudhary Liquor ban in Bihar will be one of the most complex challenges for the government. The social impact of this policy implemented by Nitish Kumar was visible, but issues like illegal liquor, smuggling and misuse of law also came to the fore. Samrat Chaudhary will have to adopt a balanced strategy. Practical reforms in law with strict enforcement, relief in small cases and crackdown on big networks. Also, attention will have to be given to rehabilitation, awareness and alternative employment. Only then will they be able to make prohibition not just a law but an effective social policy.
3. Improving the image of law and order
Law and order has always been a big issue in Bihar. Crime control, policing reforms and creating a sense of security among the public will be a big test for Samrat Chaudhary.
4. Preventing unemployment and migration
Lack of employment and large-scale migration is an old problem in the state. Bringing investment, expanding industry and providing employment to youth locally will be one of the biggest challenges.
5. What is the formula to solve caste equation?
Politics of Bihar is based on caste equations. BJP will have to keep all the sections like Kurmi, Koeri, OBC, EBC, upper caste and Dalit balanced. Otherwise political imbalance may arise.
6. Providing benefits of Centre-State coordination
Better coordination with PM Narendra Modi government is both an opportunity and a challenge. Samrat Chaudhary will have to prove that the direct benefit of the power of the Center is visible in the development of Bihar and the people get its benefits.
7. Establishing Yourself as a “Mass Leader”
The biggest political challenge will be to create our own identity. Only going beyond being the leader of the organization and becoming a popular and trustworthy face among the public will determine his success. In fact, becoming CM will not just be an opportunity for Samrat Chaudhary to assume power, but a real test to prove himself and decide the direction of Bihar. In such a situation, the biggest challenge before him is the legacy of Nitish Kumar.
