First the government, then Nishant Kumar stayed away from the swearing-in ceremony, JDU leader said – ‘He has to decide himself’
There was a lot of discussion about the name of Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar in the politics of Bihar for the last few days. There were speculations that he would hold the post of Deputy Chief Minister in this new NDA government. Every possible effort was made to persuade him before the formation of the government, but Nishant remained away from this seat of power. It was surprising when Nishant Kumar was not seen even in the grand swearing-in ceremony held on Wednesday (April 15, 2026). His absence has sparked a new discussion in political circles.
What did Deputy CM Bijendra Yadav say about Nishant’s distance? After Nishant Kumar did not attend the function, senior JDU leader and Deputy Chief Minister in the new government Bijendra Yadav has broken his silence. Speaking to reporters after the swearing-in of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, he said, “Nishant Kumar himself has to decide whether he wants to enter active politics or not.” When asked if Nishant would take over the organisation’s work, Bijendra Yadav replied with a smile, “He should take up the organisation’s work, if he does then we will welcome it.”
Counterattack on Tejashwi’s ‘Pathshala’ statement The war of words has also intensified in the politics of Bihar. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had recently given a statement that Samrat Chaudhary has emerged from ‘Lalu’s school’. Countering this, Bijendra Yadav asked a sharp question, “Whose school has he (Tejashwi) himself come out of? Earlier it was all Janata Dal only.” On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Chaudhary also expressed happiness on getting the responsibility and described the role of Nitish Kumar as important.
Congress’s attack: ‘People of Bihar were cheated’ With the formation of the new government, the opposition has started the siege. Senior Congress leader Tariq Anwar gave a sharp reaction to Samrat Chaudhary being elected as the leader of the NDA legislature party. He said, “We were expecting that Nitish Kumar would remain the Chief Minister for the next five years because the NDA had promised the same to the public. But his leaving the post mid-term will have a bad impact on the situation in Bihar.” Tariq Anwar further said that the election was fought in the name of Nitish Kumar and suddenly Samrat Chaudhary was put forward, this is a kind of deceit with the people of Bihar.
Nitish Kumar congratulated Samrat Chaudhary Even though Nishant Kumar is staying away from the function and the opposition is raising questions, Nitish Kumar has given his full support to the new government. After Samrat Chaudhary took oath as the Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar congratulated him through social media. Expressing confidence in the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary, Nitish has written about working together for the development of Bihar. Now it remains to be seen whether Nishant Kumar strengthens the organization by staying behind the scenes or maintains his distance from politics.
