How rich is the family of ‘king of gambling’ Stanley Ho?

The family recently announced that, Maisy Ho, one of 17 children of Stanley, died Sunday, without revealing the cause of death.

Maisy’s sister Pansy Ho was named the 23rd richest person in Hong Kong this year with a net worth $4.5 billion, according to U.S. magazine Forbes.

Pansy, the chairwoman of Shun Tak Holdings, a Hong Kong and Macau-based property developer that operates ferries between the two cities and runs hotels.

She also holds stakes in Macau casino operators MGM China Holdings and her late father’s SJM Holdings. She earned more than $1.5 billion from MGM China’s 2011 IPO.

Maisy’s brother Lawrence Ho was estimated to have a net worth of $1.2 billion in 2023, but for the last three years he did not appear on Forbes’ billionaire list. His wealth peaked in 2014 at $3 billion.

Lawrence controls Nasdaq-listed casino operator Melco Resorts through Hong Kong-listed Melco International Development.

His partnership with Australian billionaire James Packer, Melco Crown, ended in 2017 after the development of four casinos. Melco Resorts operates three casino-resorts in Macau, along with the Mocha chain of slot machine clubs and City of Dreams Manila.

Angela Leong, Stanley Ho’s fourth wife, is not related to Maisy by blood, though they are connected within the extended family. Maisy is the daughter of Stanley’s second wife, Lucina Laam King-yin, who died in 2022.

Angela’s net worth is estimated at $2.1 billion this year, making her the 44th richest person in Hong Kong.

She is co-chairwoman and the largest individual shareholder of casino operator SJM Holdings. She also serves as an elected legislator in Macau.

Hong Kong-listed SJM Holdings operates casino resorts including L’Arc and the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort in Macau.

Angela, who began investing in her early 20s, also holds a large portfolio of Hong Kong properties, from which she derives the majority of her wealth.

Maisy was an executive director at Shun Tak Holdings. Sing Tao Dailya sister publication of The Standardreported that she had been battling breast cancer for years. After the illness returned, she was admitted to the intensive care unit at Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, where she died.

Her siblings include Daisy Ho and Josie Ho, but there are no reliable estimates of the wealth of any of the three.

Stanley passed away in 2020 at the age of 99. In 2019, Bloomberg estimated Stanley’s net worth to be around $14.9 billion, ranking him as the 17th wealthiest individual in Asia at the time. His wealth mainly came from his monopoly on the Macau gambling industry for around four decades.

After his death, the majority of his fortune was allocated among his daughter Pansy, his fourth spouse Angela, and his son Lawrence.
