New Delhi: Pakistan T20I opener Sahibzada Farhan has once again spoken about his memorable duel with Jasprit Bumrah during the Asia Cup 2025, describing it as a turning point that boosted his confidence against top-level bowling.
Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the most formidable bowlers in T20 cricket, has consistently troubled batters with his pace, variations, and accuracy. However, Farhan managed to counter the Indian pacer effectively during their encounter.
Rare feat against India’s pace spearhead
Farhan stands out as the only batter to have hit Bumrah for three sixes in T20 internationals. He scored 51 runs off 34 balls against the pacer, including six fours and three sixes, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 150.
Reflecting on the experience, Farhan said taking on a bowler of Bumrah’s calibre gave him the belief to face other bowlers in the Indian attack.

While highlighting his performance, Farhan acknowledged that India’s bowling strength extends beyond just Bumrah. He pointed to players like Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav as equally challenging opponents.
“It’s not that there was only Bumrah. All of them are among the best. But starting well against a bowler like him gives you confidence,” Farhan said.
“You have to find your way”
Farhan admitted that facing Bumrah initially was extremely difficult due to his variety, including yorkers, slower deliveries, bouncers, and both inswing and outswing.
“He gave me a tough time in the beginning. It’s natural that he’s very difficult to play. You have to find your way, and once you get through that phase, the rest of the bowling feels easier,” he explained.
Strong performances continue
Farhan’s form has remained impressive beyond that match. He was the leading run-scorer in the T20 World Cup 2026, amassing 383 runs in six matches.
However, he did not get the opportunity to face Bumrah in the India-Pakistan clash during the tournament, as he was dismissed in the first over by Hardik Pandya.
Bumrah shines in tournament
Bumrah, meanwhile, had an outstanding campaign, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets in eight matches, reaffirming his status as a key figure in India’s bowling attack.
India went on to win the Asia Cup final, with a standout performance from Tilak Varma playing a decisive role in securing the title.
Conclusion
Farhan’s reflections highlight the mental aspect of cricket, where success against elite players can significantly boost confidence. As rivalries like India vs Pakistan continue to captivate fans, such individual battles add another layer of excitement to the sport.
