What to do on the day of Vaishakh Amavasya?

Holy Bath: It is considered auspicious to take bath in river Ganga or any other holy river on this day. If it is not possible to take bath in river, then while taking bath at home, mix some Ganga water in water and take bath.

Pitru Tarpan: Amavasya is considered the date of ancestors. On this day, offering water to the ancestors with black sesame seeds gives relief from Pitra Dosh.

Peepal Puja: Gods and ancestors are believed to reside in the Peepal tree. Offer water in the morning and light a mustard oil lamp in the evening.

Importance of donation: There is more heat in the month of Vaishakh, hence donating an earthen pot (Kalash), Sattu, fan, umbrella and seasonal fruits on this day is considered extremely fruitful.

Animal-Bird Service: Provide bread to cows, food to dogs and food and water to birds. Feeding flour balls to fish is also considered auspicious.

What not to do on Vaishakh Amavasya?
