Will liquor prohibition end in Bihar? What will CM Samrat Chaudhary do?
Patna. The prohibition law in Bihar has once again come into the center of political debate. After the formation of the new government, questions have started being raised on this issue from within the ruling party, due to which the discussion has intensified whether review or change of this policy is possible in the state.
Voices started coming from inside the government
Rashtriya Lok Morcha MLA Madhav Anand, who is part of the ruling coalition, has raised the demand for serious reconsideration of the liquor prohibition law. He says that the effect of this law is not visible on the ground as per expectations, hence its review has become necessary. He also said that he has already raised this issue in the Assembly and will continue to raise it strongly in future also.
Eyes fixed on the Chief Minister
Madhav Anand has expressed hope from Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary that the new government will take a decision on this issue with practical thinking. According to him, implementing complete prohibition in a state like Bihar is creating many challenges, which should be seriously discussed.
Questions on revenue and system
Two types of opinions are emerging regarding prohibition. One side considers it a step towards social reform, while the other side calls it a reason for economic loss and increase in illegal business. This issue has become more heated due to the statements of the opposition as well as some allies.
However, after this statement, Rashtriya Lok Morcha has clarified that this is the personal view of the MLA. The party’s official stance is still in support of liquor prohibition and there is no formal discussion of change in policy at present.
