IPL 2026 Controversy: Chennai Super Kings Furious Over ‘Dosa, Idli, Sambar, Chutney’ Song; Know Why

Bengaluru: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been hit by a controversy. This one’s not about any player or a team – it’s over a song titled ‘Dosa Idli Sambar Chutney Chutney’!

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took exception to the song being played by the DJ at Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) hosted the men in yellow.

So much so that the CSK franchise management lodged a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for being allegedly “undermined and insulted”, The Indian Express reported.

The song, composed by musician Gana Appu, has gained popularity on social media, and is often being used in memes around south Indian stereotypes. CSK felt the timing and context of the track’s usage during the match in Bengaluru were inappropriate.

According to CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan, the complaint also included concerns over certain comments allegedly made about Chennai players during the match.

“The DJs are usually there to support the home team. But at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it was different. Certain comments were made against our players. Considering that, we have written to the BCCI to look into it,” he said.

Last year, RCB’s Jitesh Sharma was seen singing ‘Dosa Idli Sambar Chutney Chutney’ in a video which went viral. After CSK fans trolled him, the Chennai franchise had stepped in to request that no such remarks should be directed at opposition players.

Viswanathan said stated that there had been no such incidents after the earlier episode involving Jitesh, until the April 5 game. “After that incident, there hadn’t been any repeat. The DJ isn’t supposed to make comments on opposition players. Moreover, we are fortunate to have a lovely fanbase that supports us in large numbers,” he added.

Some of the DJ’s remarks following dismissals of CSK players were in bad taste, the Chennai team claimed. Engaging the crowd and getting them involved to support the home team is part of the DJ’s role, but they are not there to “undermine rivals or insult them,” a CSK official said.

Five-time champions CSK lost that match against RCB by 43 runs, their third consecutive defeat in IPL 2026. But they have since bounced back with two successive wins at home.

Defending champions RCB are currently top of the table, having won 4 out of 5 games.
