Filmmaker-director Ashok Pandit has shared a video criticizing Lenskart’s dress code policy. He shared a photo of the dress code page of the company’s style guide and wrote that while hijab is allowed in the company, religious tikas, tilas, bindis and mehndi are not allowed. Wearing any type of cap or hat is prohibited. There are also rules regarding the application of vermilion, according to which if a woman applies vermilion, it should be minimal and should not be visible on the forehead. Tikli is not allowed.
Piyush Bansal himself came forward to explain
Following criticism on social media, Piyush Bansal, founder and CEO of Lenskart, himself came forward to clarify the situation regarding the dress code that went viral, saying it was an outdated and inaccurate document. The company’s grooming policy has changed. He also said that there are no restrictions on religious beliefs and culture. He clarified that there is no restriction on any religious expression including tikli and tila.
