‘Confusion is being spread’, Shah answered each question of the opposition on delimitation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah answered each question of the opposition on the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bill. Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that a completely false narrative is being spread that after the implementation of women’s reservation and delimitation of constituencies, if the Lok Sabha seats increase to 816, the representation of the southern states will reduce.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the reality is that the number of seats will increase and the strength will also increase. In response to Priyanka Gandhi’s question, Shah said that we have not made any changes in the Delimitation Commission Act. We have repeated your own delimitation law. If you have done manipulation at that time then all I can do is that we will not do it.

Delimitation will have no impact on current elections: Shah

Shah further said that the Modi cabinet has decided to conduct caste census. The present census is being conducted on the basis of caste census only. No wrong information should be spread regarding this. The Delimitation Commission law is completely in line with the old law. No changes have been made in this. This will not have any impact on the current elections.

‘The strength of the southern states will not decrease, but will increase’

Amit Shah said that the biggest narrative is being created and the misconception is being spread that due to the introduction of these three bills – Constitution Amendment Bill, two laws on delimitation, changes in the Constituency Election Act, the capacity of the South in the Lok Sabha will be greatly reduced and our southern states will suffer a huge loss. Amit Shah told in the Lok Sabha that after the increase of 50 percent, the power of the southern states will not decrease in the Parliament, but will increase further. He placed the state-wise data before the House floor and tried to show that after the new delimitation, the representation of the five southern states will further increase.

Shah replied to the allegations of opposition state wise

Amit Shah said that there are a total of 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka. Of the total number of 543 members of the House, 5.15 percent come from Karnataka. After the bill is passed, the number of MPs in Karnataka will increase from 28 to 42. Its percentage will increase to 5.44% in 816 seats in the Lok Sabha. Karnataka will not suffer any loss at all.

There are 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh. At present it has 4.60 percent stake in the Lok Sabha. After the bill is passed, the number of MPs will increase from 25 to 38. The share will also increase to 4.65 percent.

Telangana has 17 seats, which is 3.13 percent of the Lok Sabha. After the bill is passed, the number of MPs will increase from 17 to 26. Its share will also be 3.18 percent of its capacity.

Shah said that I want to assure the people of Tamil Nadu that your power will not decrease, but is increasing. Currently 39 MPs come here after being elected from Tamil Nadu state. Its share in the House of 543 is 7.118 percent. Now after 50 percent increase, the number of Lok Sabha members will become 59. Tamil Nadu’s share in the House of 816 will be 7.23 percent. Tamil Nadu will also not suffer any loss.

There are currently 20 MPs in Kerala. Their capacity is 3.68 percent. After the passing of the bill, the number of MPs will be 30 instead of 20 and their share in the House will be 6.67%. Shah said that if we listen to the narrative that has been created in the South, then out of 543 seats, currently 129 MPs sit in this House. This is approximately 23.76% strength of South MPs. Now after 50 percent increase, there will be 195 MPs instead of 129 and their strength will be 23.97%.

Delimitation Commission was mentioned, saying that you will put your people in the Delimitation Commission. Will do this and do that. I want to tell Priyanka Gandhi that we have not made any changes in the Delimitation Commission. We have repeated your Delimitation Commission Act. If you have tampered with it then I can say that we will not do so.Amit Shah, Union Home Minister.
