“Today the House has approved your working style…” Why did PM Modi give special congratulations to Harivansh Singh? Became Deputy Chairman for the third consecutive time
New Delhi: A big news is coming out from the political field. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Harivansh Narayan Singh has once again been elected Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Interestingly, Harivansh Narayan Singh was selected unopposed this time too, that is, no one stood against him. This is his third consecutive term of holding this post, which shows his working style and his popularity in the House.
Historic victory without any competition
The previous term of Harivansh Narayan Singh had ended on 9 April. After this, Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan had fixed Friday for the elections. The name of no candidate from the opposition came forward in the House, due to which Harivansh won without any contest. Many senior leaders of BJP and NDA had presented proposals in support of his candidature. The proposal of several senior members, including House leader JP Nadda and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, was passed by the House by voice vote and he was declared elected.
Congress expressed protest, kept distance from elections
Even though this election was unopposed, Congress has expressed its displeasure over the entire process. Congress not only boycotted this election but also made sharp attacks on the government. Congress says that the Modi government has kept the post of Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha vacant for the last seven years, which is unprecedented in parliamentary history. The party also alleged that no consultation was held with the opposition regarding this election. However, Congress did express the hope that Harivansh will remain sensitive to the concerns of the opposition in his third term.
Prime Minister Modi patted Harivansh’s back
Prime Minister Narendra Modi specially congratulated Harivansh Narayan Singh on his victory. PM Modi said, “Being elected for the third consecutive time is a symbol of this House’s deep trust in you. The House has today put its seal of approval on the efforts you have made to take everyone along. This is an honor to your easy working style.” The PM further said that the entire House has seen the dignity of the Rajya Sabha increasing under his leadership.
Let us tell you that Harivansh Narayan Singh has now joined the list of select leaders who have completed three terms as Deputy Chairman. The special thing is that just a day after his tenure ended, the President again nominated him to the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for his return.
