Iran-US war: ”Attacks on Strait of Hormuz will not be tolerated…” India’s tough stance in UN amid Iran-US war
New Delhi/United Nations: Amidst the US-Iran conflict, India has given a clear warning in the United Nations regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz. India said that any kind of attack or obstruction on this important sea route will not be tolerated.
India’s Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish, while presenting India’s strong position during the discussion on the situation in West Asia in the UN General Assembly, said that India had expressed deep concern immediately after the war started in the region on 28 February 2026. India had appealed to all parties to exercise restraint, prevent the situation from worsening and ensure the safety of civilians.
Harish stressed that the best way to reduce such conflicts is through dialogue and diplomacy. India has been urging all countries to resolve their differences peacefully and refrain from any kind of aggressive action. At the same time, it is necessary to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country.
Condemn attacks on merchant ships
The Permanent Representative of India expressed deep regret over the incidents of targeting of commercial ships during the war. He said that many Indian sailors lost their lives in these attacks, which is extremely sad and worrying.
India is clear that targeting innocent merchant ships and civilians onboard is completely wrong and unacceptable. This not only puts the lives of innocent people in danger but also severely affects global trade.
Harish, while specifically mentioning the Strait of Hormuz, said that it is a very important sea route for the world’s energy supply. India demands that the movement of ships in this strait should be completely free and safe without any obstruction and danger. Any kind of obstruction here is a violation of international law and cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
India has once again appealed to all concerned countries to fully respect international law and ensure the safety and smooth resumption of global trade and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
This statement comes at a time when tensions in the Strait of Hormuz are affecting global oil supplies and prices.
