Rahul Gandhi winks at internet saying ’16’ to target Modi; the nation hasn’t slept since
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, did on Friday (April 16) something that mostly makers of thriller films or series generally commit: tickling the audience’s mind in the final scene or episode. A sequel is coming!
The Congress leader, while wrapping up his remarks on the ongoing debate on delimitation and women’s reservation bills, said on the floor, much to the chagrin of the treasury bench, that he wanted to say a puzzle and the whole answer to the puzzle is the number 16. “Everything is in the number 16,” he said.

He then invited the entire nation to figure it out themselves and let him know, either through a message or through X.
Even as Parliament was approaching the conclusion of a tiring day, the internet just got started.
What’s in 16?
People kept guessing about No. 16. Does ‘Sweet 16’ work in politics? Unlikely. Was it from the past when 16 Telugu Desam Party MPs held the government hostage? Or was some 16-minute video waiting to make some serious expose? A secret document? A prophecy? Titanic’s sinking anniversary?
Even May 4, when results of four states and one Union Territory elections will come out, was 18 days away on April 16.
Rahul didn’t reveal even as people, perhaps even some from his own party, kept wondering.
The origin was no less dramatic. Saying the prime minister, during his address on Thursday, looked “low” on energy, “broken” with “nothing transmitting”, the LoP said he suddenly glanced at his phone and saw the date: April 16.

“So, I was watching him, and I noticed on my phone sixteenth of April. And I was like, ‘My God, how crazy. That’s the number. Sixteen! This sixteen number, this is the number. The whole answer to the riddle is in the number sixteen. Everything is in the number sixteen,” Rahul said.
The debate, which had been going intensely till that point in time, seemed to have halted for a moment. Imagine the brewing curiosity. Imagine the dramatic pause. Imagine crores of Indians looking up to Guru Google typing “Rahul Gandhi 16”.
‘Sixteen sounds like Epstein’
Sooner, the Grand-Old Party played the second-fiddle role perfectly, posting on X, “Sixteen sounds a lot like Epstein, doesn’t it?”
Puzzle for all of you:
Yesterday, the Prime Minister was low on energy. Suddenly, I noticed it was the 16th of April.
My God, how crazy! The number: Sixteen

Ah. That sixteen!
At least 16 Epstein files vanished in US
The parallel was not entirely wild as, across the ocean, the US justice department had been releasing, before quietly un-releasing files related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late tainted financier and registered sexual offender whose social circle read like a who’s-who of people who are looking for escape routes. At least 16 files vanished from the department’s website, including, reportedly, a photograph featuring, guess who? US President Donald Trump, it was reported last December.

To be clear, the US department has stated that no politicians’ names are being withheld. The New York Times notes that Trump’s name appears rarely in the documents.
In January this year, the Centre rejected contents of newly released emails from Epstein, saying Trump had played a role in Modi’s visit to Israel in 2017, calling them “trashy ruminations by a convicted criminal”.
However, these connections are only left to the imagination as Rahul did not explicitly say any of this. He merely mentioned a number. In Parliament.
The riddle remains officially unsolved. Amid the chaos it triggered, however, does anyone have the right answer?
