Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship case: High Court orders investigation

Lucknow, Read: The High Court has registered an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and ordered investigation. The Lucknow bench of the High Court said that prima facie there seems to be a need for investigation in the matter.

Actually, hearing was held today in the case of alleged dual citizenship of Rahul Gandhi. After the hearing, the High Court has registered an FIR on the complaint of S. Vignesh Shishir and ordered investigation. The High Court said that after the first information report (FIR) is filed, the state government can direct any central agency to investigate the case. Justice Subhash Vidyarthi’s bench said S. This order was issued on the petition filed by Vignesh Shishir.

The petitioner had challenged the order of the special MP-MLA court dated January 28, 2026, which had rejected his request to lodge an FIR against Rahul Gandhi. MP/MLA The court had said that this court is not competent to decide on the issue of citizenship. Shishir, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker and petitioner in Karnataka, had requested for registration of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi and a detailed investigation into the matter. They have leveled several charges against Rahul Gandhi under the Indian Justice Code (BNS), Official Secrets Act, Foreigners Act and Passport Act.

This application was initially filed in the special MP/MLA court of Rae Bareli but on the petition of complainant Vignesh, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court had transferred the said criminal complaint case from Rae Bareli to Lucknow on December 17, 2025. The MP/MLA court of Lucknow had rejected the said petition on January 28, 2026, against which the petitioner had appealed in the High Court.
