Tension increased again due to Iranian guard’s action on Hormuz: Two Indian ships filled with oil retreated amid shelling
Tehran, April 19. Within 24 hours of announcing the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Iran took a U-turn and reimposed restrictions on this vital waterway on Saturday. The matter was not limited to this only, but Iranian guards fired on two ships in the Gulf of Hormuz, which again increased tension in the area.
Iran reversed its decision to open the Strait of Hormuz within a day
In fact, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi had announced the complete opening of the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, after which America had said that this step would not end its blockade of Hormuz. What happened next, Iran reversed its decision on Saturday and again closed the Sea of Hormuz waterway.
Revolutionary Guard opened fire on two ships i.e. tanker
In this sequence, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard opened fire on two ships i.e. tankers in the Gulf of Hormuz. Amidst this firing, two Indian ships had to return midway. One of these is a big Indian flagged tanker, which was filled with 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil.
Behind this latest decision, Iran said that America has imposed a blockade on its ports and ships, hence this step is being taken. Shortly after this, two gunboats of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, i.e. small armed boats, reached a tanker and opened fire on them.
The staff of the ship which was the victim of firing is safe
The British Military’s UKMTO i.e. UK Maritime Trade Operations Center said that the tanker on which bullets were fired and its crew i.e. the ship’s staff are safe. However, he did not tell the name of that ship or where it was going. But there are reports that one ship in it is from India.
Indian flag ship was carrying 20 lakh barrels of Iraqi oil
A website named Tanker Trackers, which tracks the location of ships at sea, reported that two Indian ships were trying to pass through the Gulf of Hormuz. As soon as the news of the firing came, both the ships changed their course and turned around. One of these ships is a very large Indian flagged tanker. It was filled with 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil. This oil was purchased from Iraq and was to be delivered to some other country, but now the ship returned midway.
Two weeks ceasefire is going to end on 22nd April
Amidst the tension, Iran has made it clear that no ship can pass without its permission. No response has come from America yet. The two-week ceasefire is set to end on Wednesday 22 April. If no agreement is reached by then, the situation may worsen and have a major impact on the world oil market.
