Leftover Dal Chilla: Is there any dal left in the house? So instead of throwing it away, make this spicy and crispy ‘Dal Chilla’ in minutes.

Making dal is a daily routine in Indian homes, but often dal is left over from the night before. Many times we feel bored in eating it after reheating it and sometimes we even have to throw it away. But did you know that these leftover lentils can form the basis of a scrumptious and high-protein breakfast?

Today we will tell you a recipe for making ‘Chapata Cheela’ from leftover lentils, which is not only delicious in taste but can also be prepared quickly in the morning rush. This recipe is a great option for preventing food wastage as well as for your health.

Ingredients

To make Dal Cheela, you will need these basic things present in your kitchen:

Leftover dal (mung or any): 1 bowl

Gram flour: 2 bowls (for binding and crispiness)

Vegetables: 1 finely chopped onion, 2 green chillies, some green coriander

Spices: 1 teaspoon cumin, a pinch of red chili, ½ teaspoon garam masala

Spicy Taste: 1 pinch dry mango powder

Oil: to bake

Easy method to make (Step-by-Step Recipe)

1. Prepare the batter:

Transfer the remaining dal to a large mixing bowl. Add gram flour to it and mix well. Now add finely chopped onion, green chilli, green coriander and all the dry spices (cumin, red chilli, garam masala, dry mango powder) into it.

2. Consistency of solution:

Beat the mixture well so that a smooth batter is prepared. If the solution seems too thick, add a little water to it. Keep in mind that the solution should neither be too thin nor too thick.

3. Heat the pan:

Heat a non-stick pan or griddle on medium flame. Apply some oil on it and make it smooth.

4. Spread Cheela:

Now with the help of a big spoon, pour the batter in the middle of the pan and spread it slowly by rotating it in a circular motion. You can keep it thin or thick as per your choice.

5. Fry until golden:

Add a little oil on the edges of the cheela. When the cheela is cooked on one side and starts leaving the sides, turn it. Cook well until golden and crisp on both sides.

Double dose of health and taste

A treasure trove of protein and fibre: The combination of dal and gram flour makes this cheela rich in protein and fiber, which is great for muscle recovery and digestion.

Helpful in weight loss: Made with less oil, it is a low-calorie breakfast. Eating this keeps your stomach full for a long time, thus preventing you from unhealthy snacking.

energy booster: Eating it in the morning provides the body with the necessary energy for the whole day.

Serving Method:

You can serve the prepared hot spicy cheela with spicy green chutney, sweet dry ginger or fresh curd. Children also like it with tomato ketchup.
