Opposition preparing letter to PM
Meanwhile, quoting sources, there is news that the opposition is preparing to write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this issue. It is being told that this decision was taken in the meeting of ‘India Alliance’, in which all the parties showed unity. During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi expressed her gratitude to the allies. It was also decided that the opposition will hold press conferences across the country and clarify its position and state that it is in favor of women’s reservation, but the government wants to take political advantage of this issue. Questioning the intentions of the government, Priyanka Gandhi said that it is the right of women to get reservation in Parliament and Assemblies and no one can stop it. He alleged that the government tried to take political advantage by linking the issue to census and delimitation, which has now failed. He said in his social media post that one day women’s reservation will definitely become a reality.
If the bill was passed, it would have created a threat to the democratic structure – Priyanka Gandhi
At the same time, he described the unity of the opposition as a victory of democracy and said that “today the opposition of the country has protected democracy and its integrity by displaying its resolve and unity.” Priyanka also said that if these bills were passed, the democratic structure of the country could be at risk. A total of 528 MPs took part in the voting that took place after this. 298 votes were cast in favor of the bill, while 230 votes were cast against it. However, to pass the Constitution Amendment Bill, two-thirds majority i.e. 352 votes was required. For this reason this bill failed by 54 votes.
