India wins a silver at IBSA Women’s Blind Football Asian C’ship
The Indian women’s blind football team clinched the silver medal in the second consecutive edition of the IBSA Asian Championships in Osaka, Japan, on Saturday.
The team lost 0-2 to the hosts and two-time world medalists Japan in the final. Japanese forward Noa Nishiyama (19′, 31′) scored both the goals of the match.
This was just the second edition of the women’s Asian championships, which featured three teams: Japan, India, and Australia.
India started its campaign with a heavy 1-5 defeat to Japan in the pool stage, but then played a goalless draw in the second game against Australia.
With this, India has booked their place in the final ahead of Australia based on the goal difference.
The Indian men’s team, which had a seventh-place finish in the last edition, will begin its campaign on Sunday with the game against former champions Japan.
They are placed in Group 1 alongside Japan, Iran and Australia. The top two-ranked teams from the two groups will reach the semi-finals.
