Entry into IPL 2026 playoffs difficult for CSK? Know how you can create space

In the 27th match of IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 10 runs. In this match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, CSK was expected to win till the last over but the team could not reach the target. Now after this defeat, the big question that has arisen is whether CSK will be able to make its place in the playoffs of IPL 2026. In such a situation, CSK fans have also started discussing about the future scenario of Chennai.

After a bad start in IPL 2026, Chennai showed signs of a good comeback by winning two consecutive matches. Now the defeat against Hyderabad once again broke their rhythm. Currently, Chennai has won only 2 out of its 6 matches and lost 4. Chennai is at number 7 in the points table with just four points and the team’s net run rate is -0.780. Now the path ahead for CSK is not easy, but a litmus test.

magic figure of playoff

In IPL, generally 16 points is considered the magic number to reach the playoffs. Currently Chennai has only 4 points in 6 matches. In such a situation, Rituraj Gaikwad’s team needs at least 12 more points to make it to the top-4. This simply means that out of the remaining 8 matches, at least 6 matches will have to be won. Now the team does not have much room for error, because they can lose a maximum of 2 matches in the league stage.

If for some reason CSK is unable to reach 16 points, then it will be necessary to reach at least 14 points. For this also Chennai will have to win 5 matches at any cost. By doing this, 10 more points will be added to the team and they can reach fourth or fifth position in the points table.
