Thailand’s largest carrier to cut flights to Asian destinations including Singapore

Northeast Asia will also bear the brunt of the adjustments.

Thai Airways will suspend flights to Kaohsiung from May 8.

Services to key markets such as Seoul, Beijing and Shanghai will also be scaled back.

In the European market, a number of long-haul routes to Frankfurt, Munich (Germany), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Stockholm (Sweden) would be reduced from daily operations to just five flights per week in order to optimize operating costs.

The airline said the adjustments were made to align capacity with weaker travel demand while managing elevated operating costs, particularly fuel.

Some Thai airlines such as Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia and Thai AirAsia X previously suspended selected routes to Asian destinations as the Middle East conflict pushes up aviation fuel costs.

Bangkok-based research company Kasikorn Research Center forecasts a 9.2% drop in foreign arrivals to Thailand in the second quarter as the factors weigh on travel demand.
