‘Dry day’ declared for next 48 hours in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal

Delhi: Voting for assembly elections is to be held in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal on 23 April. In view of this, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed to implement ‘dry day’ for the next 48 hours till the completion of voting in both the states.

As per the orders of the Election Commission, there will be a complete ban on sale, serving and distribution of liquor in the respective areas of both the states till the completion of voting. The Commission has taken this step to prevent any kind of irregularities, influence on voters or law and order problems during voting.

Voting in two phases in West Bengal
Let us tell you that the voting process for West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 will be conducted in two phases. According to the Election Commission’s schedule, the first phase of voting will be held on April 23, in which voting will be held on 152 assembly seats in the state. After this, the second phase of voting is scheduled on April 29, in which the electoral process will be completed on the remaining 142 seats. The results of this election for all 294 seats of West Bengal will be declared on May 4.

When to vote for elections in Tamil Nadu?
At the same time, the entire voting process for the Assembly elections 2026 in Tamil Nadu will be completed in a single phase. According to the official schedule of the Election Commission of India, voting for all 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 23. The nomination process for this election began on March 30 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations was April 9. To maintain security and law and order, ‘Dry Day’ has been imposed in the entire state from the evening of 21st April, just 48 hours before the polling, which will continue till the completion of polling on 23rd April.
