Controversy intensifies over ‘Lawrence of Punjab’, Moosewala’s father demands ban on docu-series

Lawrence of Punjab Controversy: Controversy is increasing regarding the upcoming documentary series ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ on OTT platform. While the makers of this series are telling it the story of society, system and becoming a criminal, on the other hand it is being accused of glorifying gangsters. This series came into discussion only after the release of the trailer, but now the matter has become serious after Balkaur Singh Sidhu, father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, has demanded to ban it. He says that such films will have a negative impact on the society and especially the youth. At the same time, in this series, criminals are being presented as heroes. Not only this, he has questioned the government and demanded a ban on this series.

The director told why he made the series

It is noteworthy that the director of this series, Raghav Dar, says that his aim is to show the life of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his network as a case study. In the trailer, an attempt has been made to show the process of formation of a criminal identity through the influence of student politics, music, ideology and media. The makers claim that this is not just the story of one person but an investigation of the social structure in which such identities are formed. However, critics believe that in such content, criminals are often given more importance by keeping them at the center, which sends a wrong message to the society.

Moosewala’s father demanded to ban the series

Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh has expressed strong objection to this series. He says that gangsters are being presented as heroes, which can be dangerous for the youth. He told the government that there are many martyrs, sportspersons and scientists in Punjab whose inspirational stories can be shown, then why is the focus being focused on only one criminal.

Questions to the government and demand for ban

Sidhu Moosawala’s father has directly questioned the government on this issue and said that if there are many serious cases registered against such criminals, then why are they being glorified like this. He also said that either the system is wrong or the criminals are there, because if they are innocent then why are they in jail. He clearly demanded to ban the documentary series and said that the government should take strict action against such content.

‘Lawrence of Punjab’ will be released on 27th April

At the same time, it is being said by the makers that ‘Lawrence of Punjab’ should not be seen as a common crime story but from the perspective of a deep social study. The objective of criminals is to understand what situations, influences and systems cause such people to become such people. The series is scheduled to release on April 27, but even before that it is embroiled in controversies. Now it has to be seen what effect this protest has on the release of the series and whether the government takes any decision in this matter or not.
