Shooting in Malaysia leaves Vietnamese woman dead
A 71-year-old man was taken into custody following a triple shooting that claimed the lives of two local men and a Vietnamese woman in Johor.
Authorities confirmed the suspect allegedly used a shotgun to carry out the attack at a restaurant located in Kota Tinggi last Sunday.
“This incident does not involve organized crime or terrorism, and we do not rule out the possibility that the motive may be related to personal debt issues,” Johor police chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said in a statement quoted by MalayMail.
The Vietnamese victim has been identified as the owner of the establishment where the violence broke out.
Witnesses noted that after the shooting, the suspect drove approximately 200 meters to a nearby café, where he remained until his arrest.
According to reports from The Starthe suspect’s status as a landowner granted him the legal right to possess a firearm. Investigations also revealed he had no prior criminal record before the event this weekend.
The conflict reportedly stemmed from a financial dispute. The suspect had allegedly confronted the food court owner, one of the three deceased, to demand the repayment of a loan just one week prior to the shooting.
The New Straits Times reported that the situation escalated when the owner allegedly attacked the suspect instead of settling the debt. The man returned on Sunday and opened fire.
A fourth individual, a woman, was reportedly present during the attack but was spared after she pleaded for her life.
The case is now being investigated for “murder,” police announced.
