Minister Rajnath Singh invites German industry to work under ‘Self-reliant India’

New Delhi. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh invited German industry to work together under Aatmanirbhar Bharat to deal with emerging security threats. The Defense Minister paid floral tributes to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at the campus of Humboldt University in Berlin and emphasized the long-standing cultural and intellectual ties between India and Germany. Rajnath Singh said that considering the situation in West Asia, India’s strategy shows its ability to respond to global crises.

The Defense Minister told German MPs in Berlin that self-reliant India is not just a procurement program, but it is an invitation to develop together. He strongly advocated for better cooperation between the defense industrial ecosystem of India and Germany. Addressing the German Parliament’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security on the first day of his three-day visit to the European country, the Defense Minister stressed that the world today is facing new security threats. Changes in technology have made the situation more complex and interconnected. He said that the need of the hour is to find a new way with the willingness to adapt to the changing environment.

The Defense Minister said that we recognize the already built strength of German industries. Also, in India too, our start-ups and growing private companies are rapidly enhancing and complementing the capabilities of our large and already established defense companies. This is an area where India and Germany complement each other and our partnership can become stronger. To deal with today’s global challenges, Rajnath Singh stressed the need for joint responses and credible strategic partnerships. He said that we are also seeing a clear convergence of views on the European Union, which is reflected in the increasing pace of engagement with India, including the India-EU defense and strategic partnership.

The Defense Minister reiterated that India and Germany are not only strategic partners, but also important voices in shaping the global conversation today. When the history of this era is written, the India-Germany partnership will stand as an example of diplomacy not in response to crisis, but as two mature democracies determined to walk this path together. Rajnath Singh said that the current geopolitical instability can no longer be seen as a regional matter. He said that its consequences are global and will have far-reaching impacts on energy security, food security and global economic stability.

He said that a developing country like India is dependent on the West Asian region for a large part of its energy needs. The blockages in the Strait of Hormuz are not a far-fetched idea, they are a harsh reality with a direct impact on our security and economic stability. The Defense Minister said that considering these challenges and their direct impact, India adopted the strategy. He told MPs that a Group of Ministers on West Asia is continuously assessing the changing situation and suggesting timely measures to reduce its impact. ————-
