BMW Motorrad has opened pre-bookings for the F 450 GS ahead of its official launch on April 23, 2026. Bookings are open at authorised BMW Motorrad dealerships. The F 450 GS is expected to be priced upwards of Rs 5 lakh ex-showroom, and it slots in as the replacement for the now-discontinued G 310 GS, which used a single-cylinder 313cc engine.

The jump from the G 310 GS to the F 450 GS is not small. The new bike uses a 420cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine producing 48hp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm at 6,750rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.

The G 310 GS made 34hp from its single-cylinder motor. That is a gain of 14hp, or roughly 41 percent more power. Engine capacity is also up by 107cc, which is about a 34 percent increase. Those numbers alone show that BMW is not treating this as a mild upgrade. It is a full repositioning of the bike.

One more detail worth noting is production. The F 450 GS will be manufactured in India by TVS Motor Company at its Hosur facility, continuing the TVS-BMW Motorrad arrangement already seen with the G 310 range. Local production matters because it is the main reason BMW can even attempt to price a twin-cylinder adventure bike around the Rs 5 lakh mark.

The F 450 GS sits on USD front forks with long-travel suspension and a monoshock at the rear, both adjustable for on-road and off-road use. Wheel sizes are 19-inch front and 17-inch rear, fitted with dual-purpose tyres. Kerb weight is 178kg, which keeps it manageable for a wide range of riders. Seat height in standard form is 845mm, with a lower 835mm and taller 860mm option available.

That weight figure deserves attention. At 178kg, the F 450 GS is not excessively heavy for the category, especially given that it uses a parallel-twin engine and carries full-size adventure-bike styling and hardware. The adjustable seat options are also practical. The 25mm spread between the lowest and tallest seats means BMW is clearly trying to make the bike work for shorter riders as well as taller, off-road-focused users.

The braking setup uses dual-channel ABS that can be switched off for off-road use. Four riding modes, traction control, heated grips, and a 6.5-inch colour TFT display are part of the standard equipment list. A feature called Easy Ride Clutch allows clutchless gear shifts in normal riding conditions, which adds convenience in city riding and on long highway runs.

A twin-cylinder engine changes refinement, highway cruising behaviour, and overtaking performance. That matters because the 300cc class often feels stretched once speeds rise and luggage or a pillion is added. A 48 Bhp output also places the BMW near the upper end of what many A2-category and mid-capacity adventure riders expect internationally, which suggests the brand wants this bike to have wider relevance beyond just one market.

Globally, the F 450 GS is offered in Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and Trophy trims. The Trophy variant is the most off-road-focused, with tubeless wire-spoke wheels, knobby tyres, and added electronic aids. Which of these four variants will be available here has not yet been confirmed.

At Rs 5 lakh and above, the F 450 GS steps into a segment occupied by the KTM 390 Adventure at Rs 2.80 lakh, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 at Rs 2.69 lakh to Rs 2.99 lakh. So the BMW is expected to carry a premium of roughly Rs 1.7 lakh to well over Rs 2 lakh compared to those rivals. That is a big gap in percentage terms, not just in raw rupees.

BMW’s argument is likely to rest on three pillars: the twin-cylinder engine, the richer electronics package, and brand pull. For some buyers, that will be enough. For others, especially those focused on value, the pricing will look steep when rivals already offer strong touring and trail ability for much less.
