Know the signs of freshness to buy jackfruit
Jackfruit vegetable and its taste
Jackfruit curry is a popular dish in Indian homes. Many people like it, and its pickle is also very tasty. Some people like to make it spicy, while others like delicious kofta curry. Jackfruit is used properly only when it is completely raw. Ripe jackfruit can spoil the taste of the vegetable. Often, when we buy beautiful looking jackfruit from the market, when cut at home it turns out to be ripe or sweet from inside.
How to recognize the freshness of jackfruit
While buying jackfruit, it is important to first look at the color of its outer peel. If the peel is dark green, it is good raw and a vegetable. But if there is slight yellowness or brown spots on the peel, then it has started ripening. Such jackfruit is sweet, which is not suitable for spicy gravies. Therefore always choose bright green colored jackfruit.
The shape of the thorns is also important. If the thorns are sharp and close together, it is unripe and the vegetable will be fibrous and tasty. If the thorns are flat and far apart, it means the seeds have grown and are about to become fruit. Such jackfruit should be avoided.
Another way to check the freshness of jackfruit is by lightly pressing it. Raw jackfruit is hard, while when softened it can be sweet. Apart from this, raw jackfruit does not have any special smell. If you smell a sweet smell, it is meant to be eaten as a fruit, not meant to be used as a vegetable.
