Amit Jogi Supreme Court News: Amit Jogi has got big relief from the Supreme Court. The court has currently stayed his conviction and life imprisonment in the Ram Avtar Jaggi murder case. Besides, a stay order has also been issued on the decision of Chhattisgarh High Court.

Amit Jogi had approached the Supreme Court challenging the High Court’s decision. While hearing his appeal, the apex court has given him relief for the time being, which has given him relief from going to jail immediately.

The murder took place in 2003

This case is related to the shooting death of NCP leader Ram Avtar Jaggi in Maudhapara area of ​​Raipur in 2003. At that time Jaggi was the treasurer of the party and was considered close to Vidyacharan Shukla.

Lower court sentenced life imprisonment

In 2007, the lower court had sentenced 28 accused to life imprisonment, but Amit Jogi was acquitted due to lack of evidence. Later, after a long legal process on the appeal of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the High Court convicted him on April 2, 2026, sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered him to surrender within three weeks.

Supreme Court put a stay on the punishment

It is noteworthy that in 2025, the Supreme Court had forgiven the delay in CBI’s appeal and directed the High Court to re-hear the case, after which this decision came. Now after the Supreme Court has stayed the sentence, further hearing of the case will continue and the final decision will be taken later.

Who is Amit Jogi?

Amit Jogi is the son of late Ajit Jogi, a prominent politician from Chhattisgarh and the first Chief Minister of the state. He is currently one of the main faces of his regional party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCC). Amit Jogi was born in America (Dallas, Texas), due to which questions have been raised from time to time on his Indian citizenship and date of birth.
