8 people died after their vehicle fell into a 300 meter deep gorge in Tehri, Uttarakhand, CM Dhami expressed grief.
Tehri: A horrific road accident occurred in Tehri district of Uttarakhand on Thursday. A utility pickup vehicle went out of control near Nail on Chamba-Koti road in Chamba area and fell into a ditch about 300 meters deep. Eight people died in this accident while two others were injured.
How did the accident happen?
The victims were residents of Theoldhar village of Ghansali. He was returning to his village after attending a funeral in Haridwar. There were a total of 10 people in the vehicle. The vehicle fell into a ditch after the driver lost control. Police received information through dial 112, after which the rescue team immediately reached the spot.
Rescue work continues
Teams of State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF), local police and fire department immediately started the rescue operation. So far eight bodies have been recovered and two injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital and treatment has been started. The rescue team is working to rescue the remaining people trapped in the debris.
Chief Minister Dhami’s condolence
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep sorrow over this accident. He posted on social media and said that the news of this accident that took place in Chamba area of Tehri Garhwal district is very sad. He prayed to God to give peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear the loss.
CM Dhami has instructed the district administration to make arrangements for prompt and proper treatment of the injured. He also prayed to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Administration preparations
District Magistrate Nitika Khandelwal confirmed the incident and said that the administration is fully active. Better medical facilities are being provided to the injured. Police are investigating the cause of the accident, in which carelessness of the driver and road conditions are also being taken into consideration.
This accident once again reminds us of the importance of road safety in hilly areas. Local people have demanded better road facilities and check posts so that such incidents can be prevented in future.
