India’s Textile Exports Grow Big; Exports reached Rs 3.16 lakh crore

New Delhi : India’s textile exports, including handicrafts, increased by 2.1 percent to Rs 3.16 lakh crore in fiscal 2025-26 from Rs 3.09 lakh crore in 2024-25, the textile ministry said. This growth came despite the fact that the sector faced higher tariffs imposed by the US for most of the fiscal year.

America is the largest export destination for this sector. The US introduced a 10 percent retaliatory tariff system on April 2, 2025. After that these rates increased continuously. Import duty for India increased to 25 percent till August 7, 2025 and to 50 percent till August 28. It remained at this level until early February 2026. Following the decision of the US Supreme Court, the US administration imposed 10 percent import duty on all countries for 150 days from February 24.

The court had struck down sweeping import tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on several countries. The ministry said this performance reflects the stable global demand for Indian textile products and the sector’s competitiveness in key product categories. Year-on-year growth in exports to more than 120 countries was recorded from April 2025 to February 2026, indicating geographic expansion.
