Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a press conference in Kolkata and thanked the public for the huge turnout in the first phase. He said that the people of Bengal have voted in favor of “change” and this time the elections have been conducted in a very peaceful manner.
Appreciation of Election Commission and security forces-
Amit Shah openly praised the role of the Election Commission of India, Central Armed Police Forces and West Bengal Police. He said that after a long time, such an election was seen in which there was no news of any kind of violence or death. He called this a major achievement for democracy.

Shah claimed that it is clear from the feedback received after the first phase of voting that the people of Bengal have decided their future. He said that about 92.98% voting took place on 52 seats in 16 districts, which is historic. According to him, this huge turnout is a sign of a wave of change in the state.
BJP’s claim of big victory-
The Union Home Minister said that according to the party’s internal review, out of total 152 seats, BJP can win more than 110 seats. He expressed confidence that after the second phase, the direction of formation of BJP government in the state will become clear.
Targeted at Mamta Banerjee-
Shah targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that she is spreading confusion among the public. He clarified that if BJP comes to power, the Chief Minister will be a resident of Bengal, Bengali speaking and with local background.
