Ceasefire not accepted, Iran will take action against warships: Iranian MP Ardestani

Ahmad Bashesh Ardestani, a member of Iran’s Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has said that Iran has not accepted the current ceasefire and that the country remains ready to act against US naval destroyers operating in the region. In a statement verified through open parliamentary and media archives, Ardestani said that Iran must respond to perceived threats and violations linked to the maritime‑war framework, underscoring that Tehran sees the pause in hostilities as a temporary, fragile arrangement rather than a formal end to the conflict. His remarks come amid a 2‑week, Pakistan‑mediated ceasefire in the 2026 Iran war, which the Iranian Supreme National Security Council has described as “not a termination of the war.”

Ardestani, speaking as a senior member of the parliament’s security‑policy‑making bloc, stated that Iran “has not accepted the ceasefire” in the sense of complacency and must “take action against their destroyers” if they are seen as infringing on Iran’s maritime‑security interests. He argued that the Islamic Republic is under an obligation to respond to any US‑led or allied moves that it interprets as hostile or as breaching the truce‑linked agreements. His position aligns with a broader faction in Iran’s security‑political establishment that insists the ceasefire is only a pause for negotiation and that Tehran retains the right to retaliate in both the Strait of Hormuz and wider regional theatres if the US, Israel, or their allies resume or escalate operations.

The lawmaker’s comments are consistent with earlier statements from Iran’s leadership that the war will end only when Iran’s own conditions including lifting of sanctions, security guarantees, and control over the Strait of Hormuz are met. As talks continue in Islamabad between US and Iranian delegations, figures like Ardestani are using parliamentary and media platforms to signal that the ceasefire is a tactical window, and that Iran remains ready to resume strikes or defensive‑offensive operations if the US or Israel break the pause.
