Iran angry over Pakistan’s mediation, MP says “strategic mistake made”
Tehran: Discontent appears to be growing in Iran over the peace talks being hosted by Pakistan . Iranian MP Mahmud Nabawian has categorically stated that including the nuclear issue in the process was a “strategic mistake,” further emboldening the opposition.
“Raising the nuclear issue was a wrong decision,”
Nabavian, a member of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said Iran should not have included the nuclear issue in the talks in Pakistan. He said this move gave the US an opportunity to make more demands.
Nabaviyan also implicitly questioned the decision to choose Pakistan as a mediator . According to media reports, he believed this platform gave the US greater diplomatic leverage.
What are the US’s conditions?
According to reports, the US wants Iran to eliminate its 60% enriched uranium stockpile and impose a moratorium on its production for approximately 20 years. However, Tehran has refused to accept these conditions.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire, though the timeframe has not been specified. He has also indicated that the blockade will continue until Iran makes a concrete proposal.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said any lasting agreement would require Iran to give up its enriched uranium stockpile—a condition Iran has consistently rejected.
Iran’s strong reaction
: Abbas Araghchi has termed the US blockade as an “act of war” and warned that Iran will respond strongly to this pressure.
Amidst the increasing diplomatic tension, it is clear that the path to peace talks is not easy and the role of mediation has also come under question.
