India will host Asiad 2038 Games, letter written to OCA

Delhi. India has officially submitted its expression of interest to host the 2038 Asian Games. A top official of the country’s Olympic organization gave this information. This is an important step towards the country’s broader strategy to become a global hub for major multi-sport tournaments.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) recently submitted its expression of interest to host the 2038 Games to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The continental Olympic body discussed India’s wish at its executive board meeting held in Sanya city of China on April 21. The ‘Asian Beach Games’ started in Sanya from 22nd April.

“Yes, we have submitted the expression of interest and the OCA has also discussed it in its executive board meeting,” IOA chief executive Raghuram Iyer said on Friday. India will host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, which is also the proposed city for the country’s 2036 Olympic bid.

If the country wins the Asiad bid, then this Gujarat city can once again become a strong contender to host the 2038 Asian Games. Iyer said, “Right now it is just an expression of desire. They (OCA) have had preliminary discussions and will let us know what to do next. There is (currently) no fixed deadline for submitting bids.
