Alarming rise in online crimes against women: 370 cases every day Gujarati

New Delhi, 24 April 2026: In the digital age, a big threat has arisen to the safety of women. In the last five years, the graph of online crimes against women has surprisingly increased to 6,76,019. According to data from the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP), an average of 370 women in India are becoming victims of cyber crime every day.

According to the report, cyber criminals are mainly using weapons like fake profiles, obscene messages and identity theft to target women. A total of 4,89,790 such cases have been registered. There were 21,589 cases of cyber bullying and stalking in the year 2021, which increased to 45,832 in 2025. Similarly, 46,784 cases of fake accounts have been registered in 2025 against 15,843 cases in 2021. A total of 1,43,492 cases of profile hacking have been reported in the last five years.

Women are being targeted not only on social media but also on other online platforms. According to statistics, 53,143 women have been lured by the lure of jobs. Whereas 4,680 cases of adultery have been reported on marriage related websites. Apart from this, 7682 cases of e-mail phishing have been registered in the last five years. While 1,697 women have complained of intimidation.

One positive aspect is that now women are raising their voice against cyber crimes. The cases which were earlier suppressed due to fear of social stigma, are now reaching the police directly through the NCRP portal. The Union Home Ministry has established the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Center (I4C) to fight cyber crimes.
