For Indian users, Meta has made a big bang by launching the ‘In-App Mobile Recharge’ feature. Now you will not need to go to separate apps like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm to recharge your or your family’s mobile. For this, WhatsApp has partnered with payment gateway PayU, due to which the recharge process will be completed at lightning speed. New ‘₹’ (Rupee) icon on home screen. For the convenience of users, WhatsApp has added a dedicated ₹ (Rupee) icon on its home screen (near the camera icon). By clicking on it, you will directly reach the payment and utility section. From here you will not only be able to send money, but will also be able to avail facilities like metro ticket booking and now mobile recharge. This feature is currently made available for prepaid customers of Jio, Airtel and Vi (Vodafone Idea). Just follow these simple steps: Open the app: Open WhatsApp on your phone and tap on the ₹ (Rupee) icon seen at the top. Select Recharge: Here you will see the option ‘Mobile Prepaid Recharge’, click on it. Enter the number: Select your number or type a friend/family member’s number. Browse the plan: Confirm the operator and choose your preferred pack from the list of available plans. Make payment: To make the payment you can use WhatsApp Pay (UPI), debit card or credit card. With more than 500 million users in India, this move by WhatsApp can become a big challenge for the giants of the digital payment market. The UPI PIN or card details used for payments are protected by end-to-end encryption and layers of security provided by payment partner PayU. The company aims to simplify users’ daily digital tasks through “Embedded Payments”.
