Speaking to DAZN after the match, via TuttoMercatoWeb Conte looked a happy man thanks to his team’s performance.

‘I had no doubts about the team’s response. We didn’t hit the target against Lazio. Nothing went right. Today there was great determination and a desire for revenge,’ the coach said.

Conte claims ‘After Lazio, there was too much excessive criticism for a team that won the league and the Super Cup and is still in second place.’

‘Despite,’ he continued, ‘still missing four players like Di Lorenzo, Neres, Lukaku and Vergara.’

Napoli 4-0 Cremonese – Conte: ‘We’re happy, we had fun and we’re second’

He admitted it has been a ‘difficult season’ but ‘I told the lads we needed to end the season as strongly as possible, and work on our communication.’

When asked about McTominay’s ideal position, after another commanding performance in a more advanced role, Conte was clear.

‘Let’s not forget that we had to force McTominay’s central midfielder option because only he and Lobotka were left. I think that’s his position, because he can play box-to-box, and we worked with him on building with the other midfielder.’

He also praised Brazilian winger Alisson, ‘who was also important and confirmed he’s growing,’ the coach said, ‘and I think Gutierrez also had a great performance.’

He concluded his comments on the match in an unusually jovial spirit: ‘We’re happy, we had fun, and we’re second while waiting for the results of the others: these are three crucial points for the Champions League.’

Napoli must now prepare for next weekend’s difficult trip to Como, albeit one that could mathematically book their place in next season’s Champions League.
