Election Commission’s ‘whip’ in Bengal: 5 police officers suspended! Was it being ‘played’ on the strength of khaki?

West Bengal: The biggest news of this time in the election battle of West Bengal is coming from Diamond Harbour. The Election Commission has taken strict action against police officers who question their impartiality. On Friday, the Commission has suspended 5 senior officers of Diamond Harbor Police District with immediate effect. The allegations are very serious, involving bias in the first phase of elections and flouting fairness.

The blame fell on these officers

The Commission has made it clear that those doing ‘management’ in the elections are no longer in good hands. The officers to be suspended include officers from small to senior posts: Sandeep Garai (ASP, Diamond Harbour), Sajal Mandal (SDPO, Diamond Harbour), Mausam Chakraborty (Inspector, Diamond Harbor Police Station), Ajay Bagh (Inspector, Falta Police Station), Bagh (OIC, Usthi Police Station), not only suspension, the Commission has also given orders to initiate a departmental inquiry (Disciplinary Action) against all of them.

West Bengal: ‘Ultimatum’ to SP Ishani Pal

The Commission not only censured the officers below, but also issued a strict warning to Diamond Harbor SP Ishani Pal. The Commission believes that the SP completely failed to maintain discipline and impartiality among her juniors. The Commission has said in a strict tone that the report of this action should be on the table by 11 am on Saturday.

‘Bumper’ voting in Bengal: Record breaking participation!

West Bengal: On one hand, while action is being taken against the police, on the other hand the people of West Bengal have participated wholeheartedly in the celebration of democracy. According to the Election Commission, in the first phase, Bengal did something which had not been done since independence. 91.91 percent voting! Dakshin Dinajpur has crossed the limit, 94.85% voting took place here. Districts like Cooch Behar, Birbhum and Murshidabad also recorded voting above 90%. There will be a fight on the remaining 142 seats of Bengal on May 29 and the public’s final decision on June 4.
