digital desk- A big upheaval has been seen in the politics of Punjab. The political atmosphere has heated up after seven Rajya Sabha MPs of Aam Aadmi Party joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Amidst this development, Bhagwant Mann has sought time to meet President Draupadi Murmu. According to sources, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann along with his MLAs may meet the President and present his stand on the issue of “recalling” Rajya Sabha MPs belonging to Punjab. This step has been taken at a time when seven MPs left AAP and joined BJP a day earlier, which has intensified the political turmoil. In this big political development, Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak themselves announced to leave the party. Along with them, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal and Vikramjit Sahni also joined BJP.
BJP is trying to break Aam Aadmi Party- Bhagwant Mann
Giving the reason behind leaving the party, Raghav Chadha said that the party led by Arvind Kejriwal has deviated from its core principles and moral values. He also claimed that all seven MPs have merged with the BJP as a faction. Immediately after this development, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a scathing attack on the BJP. He alleged that BJP is trying to break the Aam Aadmi Party and this is a betrayal of the trust of the people of Punjab. He said that BJP’s uneasiness was clearly visible after the enactment of a strict law against ‘sacrilege’. Mann also raised questions on the political status of the rebel MPs. He sarcastically said that these leaders “do not have as much vote bank as the Sarpanch.” He alleges that BJP is doing politics of defection and pressure due to its political base not being strong in Punjab.
Punjab government is continuously making improvements in all sectors.
The Chief Minister also said that his government in Punjab is continuously improving the fields of education, health, roads and employment, due to which the BJP is feeling uncomfortable and is trying to weaken the government. It is noteworthy that AAP’s position still remains strong in the Punjab Assembly. The party has 94 MLAs in the 117-member assembly, posing no immediate threat to the government. However, this big change in Rajya Sabha has definitely affected the political equations.
