Indian legend Virender Sehwag calls out Shubman Gill over his bowling changes in the RCB vs GT encounter
Shubman Gill and his Gujarat Titans side lost yet another game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Titans saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru run riot with the bat as they chased down the 206-runs with five wickets in hand. Former Indian batter Virender Sehwag wasn’t happy with the GT skipper’s bowling changes on Friday night.
While speaking to Cricbuzz, the former India batter said, “When 22-25 runs were needed off the last three overs, and if Mohammed Siraj had come in at that stage and got a wicket, maybe it would have been 20 needed off 2 overs, and who knows what would have happened from there. They could have atleast taken the game to the last over. The match did not even go till the final over.”
The 47-year-old speaking about Gill’s leadership skills, added, “I think the calculations were slightly wrong from the captain there. Fine, Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan got hit for runs, but it is the captain’s job to bring them back into the attack. If you think that you cannot use a bowler because he has conceded 31 runs off two overs, then you have lost courage, right? That means you have given up. I think that was the mistake there.”
Sai Sudharsan’s century: Lone bright spark for visitors
Rajat Patidar won the toss and chose to bowl first on a track that was great for batting. Sai Sudharsan was the best batter of the night for the visiting side. The 24-year-old notched his third IPL ton as he scored 100 runs from 58 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and five huge sixes.
GT skipper scored 32 runs with the bat while Jos Buttler hit 16-ball 25 to keep the momentum going. Jason Holder playing his first game of the season used the long handle and scored 23 runs from just 10 balls to help his side post 205 runs.
Chennai Super Kings challenge for IPL 2022 winners
The next match for the Ahmedabad based franchise is against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. The five-time winners led by Ruturaj Gaikwad are on a high after beating Mumbai Indians by a massive margin.
The loss on Friday was the second in a row for the IPL 2022 champions after having lost at home to Mumbai by 99 runs. Yet another defeat will spark massive concerns for a team that is currently sitting seventh in the table.
