Good news for central employees: chances of improvement in salaries, allowances and holidays

New Delhi. The stir regarding the Eighth Pay Commission for Central Government employees has intensified. The Commission is continuously organizing meetings towards finalizing its recommendations. After the recent meeting in Dehradun, now the round of discussion is going to start in Delhi also. Meanwhile, various employee organizations have started putting forward their demands before the Commission.

Emphasis on minimum wage and fitment factor

The biggest demand of employee organizations is to increase the minimum basic salary. It has been proposed to increase the basic salary to Rs 50,000 and increase the fitment factor to 3.83 for Level-1 (Group D) employees. If this demand is accepted, there may be a big jump in the salaries of the employees.

Demand for education allowance and new allowance

Organizations representing teachers have also demanded a huge increase in the Child Education Allowance. It has been proposed to increase it from the current amount to about Rs 7,000 per month. Also, instead of limiting this facility to 12th, there has been a demand to extend this facility till graduation. Apart from this, it has been said that about Rs 2,000 will be given every month for expenses related to broadband and artificial intelligence.

Changes in HRA and transport allowance

Employees have also demanded amendment regarding House Rent Allowance (HRA). It has been suggested to increase the current rates of 10%, 20% and 30% to 12%, 24% and 36% respectively. There has also been a demand for increase in transport allowance, which includes a proposal to increase it from 12 to 15 percent of the basic salary. Also, it has been said to increase the minimum amount as per DA by adding it to Rs 9,000.

Improvement in holidays and other facilities

Employee organizations have also proposed changes in the leave policy. There is a demand for 14 days casual leave, 30 days earned leave and 20 days medical leave every year. It has also been said to increase the limit of earned leave encashment at the time of retirement from 300 days to 400 days.

Tips on Bonuses and Working Systems

It has been proposed to increase the non-productivity linked bonus to Rs 27,640, which is much lower than currently. Apart from this, there has also been a demand to implement a 5-day work week, in which the total working time has been fixed at 45 hours.
