Bad news regarding Dhoni’s return
IPL: The moment that Chennai Super Kings fans are eagerly waiting for in IPL 2026 seems to be taking longer. There were definitely expectations regarding the return of MS Dhoni, but a new setback has postponed his return. Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has revealed that the reason for the delay in Dhoni’s return is the re-emergence of his calf injury. Due to this injury suffered before the tournament, Dhoni was initially considered to be out for only two weeks, but now almost a month has passed and CSK has played eight of its matches, in which Dhoni was not seen even once.
Injury resurfaced in warm-up match
Speaking to the media after the team’s fifth defeat, Fleming said that Dhoni’s injury had flared up again during the warm-up match, due to which his comeback was postponed again. The coach said that he is very keen on Dhoni’s return, but the calf injury is difficult. If he runs fast and gets injured again, he could be out for a long time. We tried to hurry up a bit, but he understood that his injury flared up again in the warm-up match. Since then he has been working hard to improve his movement, but this was a setback, so it is taking longer than expected.
Fans are waiting for Dhoni to become fit
However, Dhoni is constantly seen batting in the nets, where he is mainly facing throwdowns. Recently he was also seen running with the physio and then practicing against the spinners in the nets. Fleming further said that Dhoni is working hard with the physio and is doing complete rehab. We are just waiting for signs of his fitness. But all he can say is that don’t take it lightly, he is continuously improving and trying his best.
The performance of Chennai Super Kings has also been affected in the absence of Dhoni. The team has lost 5 out of 8 matches and is currently at sixth position in the points table. Now CSK has to play its next match against Mumbai Indians on May 2 at its home ground, for which the team has got a five-day break.
