Amid the scorching heat, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Monday, according to which sporadic heat wave may occur in some parts of the city. But, the good news is that as Monday progresses, the weather may take a turn and there is a possibility of light drizzle or rain. There will be a big improvement in the weather from Tuesday. Due to strong winds and rain, the maximum temperature may fall below 40 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the sky will remain cloudy till the middle of the week, due to which the mercury is expected to drop to around 37 degrees Celsius by Thursday. Why was ‘heatwave’ not declared on Sunday even after crossing 42 degrees? IMD scientist Krishna Mishra said that the temperature remained between 42 to 44 degrees on Sunday, but due to the drop of 1 degree in the maximum temperature and the increase in the normal temperature for this period, technically heat wave situation was not created. According to the Meteorological Department, the normal temperature is updated every five days. The normal temperature for April 26 to 30 is 39 degrees, while for April 21-25 it was 37.7 degrees. Let us tell you that heat wave condition is considered when the maximum temperature is above 40 degrees and is at least 4.5 degrees above normal or directly crosses 45 degrees. Along with the heat, the climate of Delhi also remains bad. On Sunday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 222, which falls in the ‘poor’ category. However, it was slightly better than Saturday’s 243 AQI.
