Lucknow: The political temperature of the state has risen due to the incident that took place in Kataria village of Karanda police station area of Ghazipur district of UP. Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has announced that he will reach the village on April 29 and meet the victim’s family. Earlier, he made a scathing attack on the state government through social media and raised many questions. Akhilesh Yadav said that changing the statement does not change the truth and alleged that the Yogi Adityanath-led government is trying to hide the truth by putting pressure on the victims. He raised five important questions in this case: Why was there a delay in registering the FIR, why were the statements of the victim’s side changed? Why is the family being harassed? Who stopped the action against the people who pelted stones at the police and why are questions being raised on the post mortem report?

Changing the statement does not change the truth.
Uttar Pradesh has never seen such a weak Chief Minister who changes his statements by putting pressure on the poor and helpless victims of severe atrocities.
The questions are:
– Why was there so much delay in filing the FIR?
– Why were things changed?
– The victim’s family is further harassed… pic.twitter.com/YfZ9JzOqSt— Akhilesh Yadav (@yadavakhilesh) April 26, 2026

The SP chief claimed that the people of the village know the entire truth and the reality cannot be suppressed by any report. He alleged that the statements are being changed under government pressure, which is causing confusion and anger in the society. Akhilesh said that this incident has increased resentment especially among the backward, Dalit, minority (PDA) community. Comparing this case with the Hathras case, he said that there are similarities in both the incidents. According to him, in both the cases the victims’ families belong to the weaker section and the influence of the accused is high. He called it a serious issue related to social discrimination.
It is noteworthy that on April 15, the body of Rita Vishwakarma, a resident of Kataria village, was found in the Ganga river. The post mortem report stated the cause of death to be drowning. Police have registered a case on the basis of family complaint and arrested the accused Hariom Pandey and sent him to jail. On April 22, a SP delegation had reached the village to meet the victim’s family, where a clash broke out between the villagers and SP workers. During this, many people including former minister Ram Asare Vishwakarma were injured in the stone pelting incident. Police have registered a case against 46 named and about 200 unidentified people including Sadar MLA Jaikishan Sahu, Jangipur MLA Virendra Yadav and SP District President Gopal Yadav in this matter.
