Yuzvendra Chahal requests approval from PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta to open batting in IPL 2026

Veteran actress and Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta spent a busy Monday morning fielding questions from the fans on her social media account. The 51-year-old took to her X-handle and wrote that she wanted to interact with fans and titled the interaction as PZchat.

Not missing a chance, veteran spinner and Indian Premier League’s (IPL) all-time leading wicket-taker Yuzvendra Chahal jumped into the fray. The 35-year-old wrote, “Mam ek match mein open batting karne ka chance mil jaaye toh” (Mam, if you can give me a chance to open the batting once).

The two-time IPL finalists broke their own record for the highest chase in T20 cricket on Saturday. Punjab chased down Delhi’s massive total of 264 runs with seven balls to spare and six wickets in hand. The Kings solidified their position at the top of the table and also continued their unbeaten run in the IPL 2026.

Legendary batter doesn’t see Punjab skipper back in India colours

Ex-Indian batting legend Virender Sehwag has made a massive statement regarding Shreyas Iyer’s return to the Indian side. The 31-year-old wasn’t picked for the T20 World Cup squad earlier this year. A few reports suggested the Mumbai-based batter could be in the running to replace Suryakumar Yadav as the Indian T20I skipper.

The 47-year-old, during his chat on Cricbuzz, said that the national T20I team was well stacked, which means that despite a few names doing well, the chance may not be given. “There is no place for Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Devdutt Padikkal, and many more players. There is no place for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yashasvi Jaiswal. Five players are scoring runs, but who will you drop for them? Where is the space?” he said.

Ricky Ponting praises Iyer’s leadership skills

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has evolved into one of the best coaches in the IPL. The 51-year-old previously won the IPL with the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and has since then gone to coach the Delhi Capitals before moving to the Punjab Kings. Ponting has enjoyed a great relationship with Iyer as the duo helped DC reach their first-ever IPL final in 2020.

At the end of the game on Saturday, the Aussie legend was asked to shed light on his relationship with the franchise’s leader. Legendary batter said that he was looking to build the team around Iyer as he is not only a great person but also a trusted finisher for his side with the bat in hand.
