India-New Zealand FTA: India and New Zealand signed many agreements including FTA, everyone from exporters to professionals and students will get benefits.


New Delhi. A free trade agreement (FTA) was signed between India and New Zealand on Monday. This is historic in the business relations between India and New Zealand. In the Modi government, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand Commerce Minister Todd McClay signed the FTA. Having FTA will be of great help to Indian exporters in selling their goods in New Zealand. The FTA between India and New Zealand was signed after only 9 months of negotiations. In this way, it has become the fastest FTA.

After the implementation of FTA, New Zealand will no longer charge any tariff on goods imported from India. Till now, about 450 types of goods were exported from India to New Zealand. New Zealand used to impose 10 percent tariff on these. Due to FTA, there will be no tariff on textiles, leather goods, porcelain, carpets, vehicles and their parts exported from India. Due to which the export of all these will increase. At the same time, India will also not charge any tariff on other things including Kiwi coming from New Zealand. Tariffs will be imposed very low on some items. All agricultural products other than milk, cream, curd, cheese and whey are excluded from the scope of the FTA between India and New Zealand. This will protect the interests of Indian farmers.

New Zealand has decided that it will invest 20 billion dollars in India in the next 15 years. Under another agreement, students going to study in New Zealand will also get convenience. Indian students will be able to work 20 hours every week in New Zealand. Besides, they will also get long term post study work visa. At the same time, New Zealand will give a quota of 5000 temporary employment visas to Indian professionals. Under this visa, one can work in New Zealand for three years. India and New Zealand have also signed an agreement on a special working holiday visa program. Under this, every year 1000 Indian youth will be able to go to New Zealand under multiple entry for one year.
